How can I get rid of Humidity in my home?

The Heating and Air Conditioning equipment that is available to the Friendswood homeowner in today’s market is heads and heels over what was available just a few years ago. Equipment is much more efficient, quieter, cleans the air better, and yes it takes out more of the humidity in the house, which in turn makes you much more comfortable.

The air in your home, and as we well know here in Friendswood, contains a lot of moisture and the higher the moisture/humidity the more uncomfortable we will feel. When the humidity in your home is high, you can feel sticky and icky.

When the air in your home gets sucked into your return air grill in the wall or ceiling, it will pass over the evaporator coil in your system which has refrigerant in it, or Freon as we tend to call it. The humid air hits the cooler coil and can not hold the moisture as much, and it turns to liquid water that then drains into your plumbing and/or outside the house. So if you have a less than efficient air conditioning system, it will not remove as much of the humidity as a more modern system can.

If you see water in your big pan that is under your evaporator coil, it means your main drain is clogged and you are going to have some trouble ahead if your back up drain also clogs. Often there is a pipe sticking out the side of your house by your outside condenser unit which is the back up drain pipe, and if you see water dripping out of that, then you need to call Eagle Air Conditioning at  281-996-1271 to have the drains cleared.

If the back up drain also clogs then you will have water spill over into ceiling or elsewhere and do a lot of damage. For a small price you can install a float switch that goes in the pan under your evaporator coil which will shut down your system if too much water builds up in the pan. This will save you from possibly having to replace your ceiling. Get rid of most of the humidity and you will be more comfortable. It is a good idea to get twice per year maintenance on your system to be sure, among other things that your drain lines are not in bad shape.
